| Name: Winston |
Sex: M |
Age: 6 years |
Color: silver |
Died: December
Winston was owned by the same person his entire life, but when
his owner went through a divorce, he was forced to find a new home for
his pet. Winston likes playing with dogs and enjoys going for walks. We
aren't sure what he thinks of other ferrets, he sometimes seems overjoyed
when he realizes there is another ferret in the room (he has cataracts
and can't see very well), but other times he seems scared if a ferret tries
playing with him.
Winston died after a long struggle with illness, but with lots of
supportive care and love from his foster parents. He is missed
dearly.

Sex: M |
Age: 6 months |
Color: blaze |
Placed: December
These spicy boys were abandoned in a rental when the occupant moved out.
The manager was good enough to contact us and meet us halfway to
transfer them from Corollas. Habernaro and Jalapeno are
overflowing with energy and enthusiasm for life and love to chase other
ferrets and human feet. We are willing to place these boys in separate
homes since they are young enough to adjust well to new circumstances,
but we would like to see them in a home with other ferrets. These
two boys are neutered, but not descented, and they give lots of kisses!
Both of these boys have been blood donors for ferrets in need. What
great kids!

Belle is a beautiful silver girl with an interesting pigment pattern on
her nose. Boo is an adorable albino boy with a bobbed tail. Belle was
adopted from CFN a couple years ago, but had to returned when her
owner's living arrangements made it impossible for her to keep her
ferrets. Boo has been living with Belle for about a year. Not much is
known about his background, but he is a very happy and energetic guy.
Belle is from Marshall Farms, Boo's origins are unknown.

| Name: Picante |
Sex: M |
Age: 3 months |
Color: butterscotch |
Placed: December
This cute little dumpling didn't last two weeks in his new home after
being purchased from a pet store as a companion for a human baby.
Idiots! At least they brought him to a shelter instead of returning him
to the pet store where he would likely end up somewhere just as
inappropriate the next time. Picante was lucky to be adopted into
a very special ferret household where he will be cherished.

This petite young sweetheart was found at a park on Vancouver Lake and
was never claimed. Initially Juniper wasn't too sure about playing
with other ferrets, but she has now gotten over her shyness and enjoys
roughhousing with other ferrets. She has put on weight since arriving,
so may not be full grown yet. Juniper is from Marshall Farms.

Color: sable |
| Name: Piccolo |
Sex: F |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: cinnamon |
Placed: November
These darling ferrets arrived as virtual skeletons. Their former
"caretaker" (and we use that term loosely) didn't know why they were
getting so skinny, a contagious health issue of some sort was feared,
but it was sadly obvious what the problem was when the pair fought over
the food that was place in their cage. They have been plugged into the
food bowl ever since arriving and are now chubby little butterballs that
don't live up to their names anymore (Twiggy gained 300 grams in less
than 2 weeks!). Twiggy and Piccolo love people and other
gentle ferrets and are both from Marshall Farms.

This guy is so sweet and fluffy that all you need is a piece of
chocolate, some graham crackers and a campfire to make your very
own ferret smore. Macaroon is delighted to do anything that
involves playing with people or other ferrets. Macaroon is very
good about using his litterbox when playing outside of his cage.
He was adopted but had to return because of allergy issues.
Macaroon is from Marshall Farms.

| Name: Tinker |
Sex: M |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: chocolate |
Placed: October
Tinker is small for a male and a bit insecure around other ferrets. He
was rescued after being attacked by a dog, and since he had the
misfortune to live in California, he shared a flight up to Portland with
some other refuges from the less then golden state. He has some thin
patches of fur from his incident, but seems to have recovered nicely.
Tinker loves batting around jingly balls and chuckles quite a bit when
out to play. Tinker is from Marshall Farms.

| Name: Rocky |
Sex: M |
Age: 3 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: October
Rocky was adopted from the CFN into a good home about a year ago
to be the companion of an older spoiled ferret. Rocky loved his
new buddy, but sadly his new friend had a terminal illness which
he recently succumbed to. Rocky tried to help his sick cagemate
by bringing him mouthfuls of food, but it didn't help. The
people that had adopted Rocky felt he really needed another
ferret playmate to be happy and they couldn't deal with getting
another ferret after the despair of loosing Rocky's friend.
Rocky is having a great time with his new ferret buddies here
and is hoping to find a home soon with at least one playful
companion he can take care of. Rocky is from Triple F.
Rocky recently donated blood to help a ferret in desperate need
of a transfusion. Way to go Rocky!

| Name: Mitzy |
Sex: F |
Age: 2 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: October
Chip and Mitzy arrived in a closed cardboard box on a hot
afternoon after spending a long time in a car without air conditioning when
their previous owners had to make a big detour to dispose of them after
having them for only a few months. Chip and Mitzy were limp and covered
in feces with the driest coats we've ever come across. The current
owners had acquired them from someone else that didn't want them
anymore, a typical story for even young shelter kids. As is also
typical, they are total sweethearts (with humans and other ferrets),
despite having had less than adequate care. Mitzy's coat is soft and
luxurious now and Chip's is slowly improving. They are both from
Marshall Farms.

| Name: Clyde |
Sex: M |
Age: 3 years |
Color: cinnamon |
Placed: October
Clyde was found wondering the parking lot of a huge apartment complex
that didn't allow pets. He was thin for his size and had fleas and ear
mites. When placed next to other ferrets, Clyde looks like a big draft
horse next to normal-sized horses, which is what inspired his name,
short for Clydesdale. He is a real cuddle bunny and needs humans for
security when other ferrets are in the same play area with him, but he
is gaining confidence. Clyde is from Marshall Farms.

This bundle of energy is almost too cute to tolerate! She is a dark-eyed
white with a silver tail and stripe down her back. She behaves as if she
is still a kit, so she probably has a little bit of growing to do.
Rosalindia was found as a stray and was never claimed. We are certain
she is deaf, but that doesn't dampen her spirits in the least!
Rosalindia is from Marshall Farms.

has not been diminished by his careless upbringing and he was
soon adopted to be the lifelong friend of a spoiled sprite.

Whoobus is from Marshall Farms. |

Placed: September
Cypress was found in a very weakened state, starved and dehydrated.
The Good Samaritan that found him nursed him for a week before turning him
over to us to find a new home. He was a sorry looking guy with ear
mites, fleas, and a scruffy coat. Cypress is a very gentle soul and
quickly won the devotion of a CFN volunteer and was adopted despite his
need of adrenal surgery in the near future. Cypress is from Marshall
Farms.

Sex: F |
Age: 1 year |
Color: albino |
Placed: September
Even albino bigots would fall in love with this little sweetie if they
met her, but too late, she has already been adopted by someone waiting
especially for an albino girl. Blizzard loves people and ferrets, but
somehow ended up as a stray that was never claimed. Her only problem was
two odd looking bulges on her abdomen which turned out to be fat bulging
through a hernia in her abdominal wall. The openings were sutured up and
she has made a full recovery. Blizzard is from Marshall Farms.

|
| Name: Feather |
Sex: F |
Age: 4 years |
Color: pale silver |
Placed: September
When Feather arrived she was a skeleton with huge black eyes and
covered with coarse white fur. She didn't seem to weigh much more than a
feather. She was found wondering in her condition and was brought to us
soon after. Despite Feather's frail condition, she was very alert and
eager to take ferretone from us, but seemed to have difficulty licking a
swallowing it. We checked her mouth and saw she had something wedged on
the roof of her mouth. We pried it out and were surprised to find it was
a cherry pit! We don't know if she was unable to eat because of it or if
she ate it because she found it on the ground and was starving. She has
had a tremendous appetite since then, eating an amazing amount of soup
in one sitting. She is very active and seems to play well with other
ferrets. Feather is from Marshall Farms.

| Name: Sunny |
Sex: M |
Age: 2.5 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: September
Sunny is hoping to find a new home, again. It is his second time
through the shelter, but not because of any personality faults, mostly bad
luck. Sunny has recovered from his recent adrenal surgery, which his previous
owners were unable to provide for him, and is his happy-go-chuckley self
again. He is loving all the attention he is getting in his foster home,
but seems unwilling to accept any new ferret playmates, instead, Sunny
enjoys playing with the cat. He also enjoys the bathtub, killing the
vacuum cleaner, ambushing humans on the stairs, and pulling himself
through tubes upside-down. Sunny is from Triple F.

Color: sable |
| Name: Joon |
Sex: F |
Age: 2.5 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: August
This super pair of ferrets came to us under strange circumstances. They
had been left behind with the mother when the daughter and son that
owned them moved out on their own. She dutifully took care of them, but
her heart definitely wasn't in it. When mom had to leave town, the
ferrets were left in the daughter's care. We got a call from the
daughter saying someone had left a pair of ferrets and their cage in the
yard of her residence. We found out the full story when the mother
returned, found our brochure, but no ferrets, and called us. Very odd.
Even if Benny and Joon came from a dysfunctional family, this
pair of ferrets is very well adjusted, happy, and in no need of therapy. They
love to play with humans and other ferrets and have lots of energy.
Benny and Joon are from Marshall Farms.

| Name: Chewbacca |
Sex: M |
Age: 3 months |
Color: cinnamon |
Placed: August
In our opinion, Chewie is at the cutest ferret age ever, but
apparently pet store customers prefer those squirmy, wormy 6 week old
ferrets that lack a developed personality, so Chewbacca was sent back to his
distributor in exchange for younger, easier to sell stock. This
youngster has a lot to make up for since he hasn't been handled much or
gotten to explore outside of his cage up until now. Chewie is from
Marshall Farms.

|
 |
| Name: Mamushka |
Sex: M |
Age: 2 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: August
Mamushka is another one of those teddy bear ferrets that you
just can't resist picking up and hugging. Not that Mamushka would mind,
this compact little boy reminds us more of a tiny dwarf bear than a ferret.
Mamushka arrived whole and in season, and was only recently neutered, so
he smells bad and is aggressive towards other ferrets, and a little nippy
to people. His odor will fade in time, as will his general nippiness (this
boy likes playing with people), and we're hoping the decrease in hormones
will increase his tolerance of other ferrets.
Mamushka is calming down and is good with people and okay with other
ferrets that can handle his rough housing. Did we mention how cute
he is?

Sex: M |
Age: 3-4 years |
Color: cinnamon |
| Name: Yum-Yum |
Sex: F |
Age: 3-4 years |
Color: dark sable |
Placed: August
This pair's first owners couldn't keep them because of allergies. Their
second owners (who are Gilbert and Sullivan fans and gave the pair their
current names from the opera Mikado) had them only four months before they
had to move across country and felt they couldn't take the duo with them.
Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum have done great with cats, dogs and
kids. Yum-Yum has had some past injuries that have resulted in her being
blind in one eye. She arrived with a luxated patella (slipped kneecap)
which appears to have fixed successfully through surgery. She also appears
to be developing a cataract in remaining good eye. Despite all these issues
she is a terribly sweet girl that likes to be cuddled and interacts well
with other ferrets. Nanki-Poo is a good natured, fun loving dynamo of activity
that enjoys athletic play activities with other ferret friends. These guys
would be good for first time owners. Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum are both from
Marshall Farms.
Yum-Yum passed away unexpectedly in late June.

This cute pair of kids has been through at least 3 homes in less than
two years. Athena has had some biting issues with their last owners,
but we feel it was because of lack of attention and out of cage time rather
than a personality fault. She has been a sweet girl with all the volunteers
that have played with her. Atlas is a total love. The pair has lived
with other ferrets in the past. Atlas is from Marshall Farms, Athena has
no tattoos, but has been descented. |

Raspberry is a gorgeous girl with a lush coat of beautifully
colored fur. She has a feisty fun loving personality and would probably
do best in an experienced home with other ferret companions to rough house

foster home, and allowing her loving personality to shine through more
often than not, although she should still go to an experienced ferret home. |

Friday and Chelsea have lived with Fury and Jasper their
entire lives. They both like to give kisses and get attention from humans.
Friday and Chelsea are both from Marshall Farms. Friday has since had adrenal
surgery and no longer looks as scruffy as his photo shows.
Chelsea died from diabetes in early July, 2001.
Near the end of July Friday underwent surgery to remove 3 hairballs.
While Friday did make it through surgery, he had developed other
health problems and died during another surgical procedure. Both
are missed by their foster parents.

| Name: Jules |
Sex: M |
Age: 5 years |
Color: silver-mitt |
| Name: Vern |
Sex: M |
Age: 5 years |
Color: sable |
|
The owner of this pair of ferrets admitted he was "a poor ferret caretaker".
This was painfully evident when the "skinny" boys were found to actually
be skeletal. Vern was less than 1.5 lb.. when he arrived, filthy
and covered with fleas. Both dove on the food bowl, devouring its contents
for a solid 10 minutes. The boys have gained weight steadily since they
arrived, putting on half a pound each in one week! Both Jules and
Vern are very sweet despite their unfortunate background. Jules is especially
adorable with a single black hind leg with a white sock. Vern is being
treated for a bad bladder infection and Jules has a heart condition that
may prevent him from undergoing the adrenal surgery he should have, so
these guys really need a special home where they can get used to being
the center of attention. They are both from Marshall Farms.
These two boys have been CFN ferrets for a very long time, and have
resided at the central facility for quite a while. We've gotten to know
them well, and when both were diagnosed with lymphoma, we began to let
them up into the house, and take Vern out on walks. Vern has always been
the sweetest of ferrets, and his happy go lucky attitude has been a joy
to watch. Unfortunately Vern began to decline rapidly over the past few
days, and completely crashed today (May 20). He lost his battle with lymphoma
less than an hour ago, and we will miss the wistful expressions on his
face and his spunky outlook on life. Jules is still eating well on his
own, but is not very active. We'll make sure he gets a little extra attention
each day now that his buddy has gone.
Jules passed away quietly near the end of June. The wonderful vets
at Southwest Animal Hospital volunteered their time and the clinic's
resources to perform an operation to remove a massive tumor and extend
Jules' life, and while Jules survived the surgery and woke up some
time afterwards, he slipped away a short while later to rejoin his
life long buddy, Vern, over the Rainbow Bridge.

Opie is a gentle giant of a ferret, unfortunately after being rescued
from neglect by a Good Samaritan, he was unable to win over his savior's

call home. This guy is a lover and excels at finding really adorable
positions to sleep with his legs spread out and his belly exposed. Opie

| Name: Gazelle |
Sex: F |
Age: 1 year |
Color: cinnamon |
Placed: July
Gazelle's huge dark eyes, long whiskers and lashes, and luxurious coat
make her appear glamorous enough for a Modern Ferret centerfold photo
shoot. She was relinquished by her owner when he had to move to
California, where ferrets are still treated like fugitives. Gazelle is
still somewhat aloof with other ferrets, as if it is beneath her dignity
to roll around on the floor with them, but she plays the happy silly
ferret when interacting with humans. Gazelle is from Marshall Farms.

 |
| Name: Persephone |
Sex: F |
Age: 1 year |
Color: sable |
Placed: July
Every now and then we take in a ferret that makes us wonder about humans
and weep for all those who suffer from our thoughtless actions, or in Persephone's
case, inaction. Persephone was purchased from a pet store and kept in a
small glass aquarium for almost all of her life. Persephone was seldom
let out from her glass prison, and even then not handled because her owners
were afraid of her. During her last few months of confinement Persephone
was not let out at all, nor was her aquarium cleaned. When we first saw
her she was a ragged bundle of skin and bones sitting on top of an inch
thick layer of ferret shit. She had no food, and only a handful of Cheerio
scattered about the cage sitting on top of her waste. She had urine burns
on her paws and was unresponsive. In short her life was a living hell.
We put Persephone in a clean cage with food and water and offered her
soup, which she eagerly accepted. Within a day Persephone was up and about,
but she had no strength in her hind quarters and would frequently fall
over. Worse yet, Persephone's long confinement had taken a toll on her
mental health, and she continuously circled her cage and play areas without
taking notice of anyone or anything. Persephone ate well, and began to
take notice of us when we fed her, and when we interacted with her at play
times.
Slowly but surely a friendly and inquisitive ferret emerged as this
shy girl opened up and began to notice and interact with her surroundings.
Persephone now actively plays with people and gets along well with other
ferrets. Persephone still restlessly paces about her cage and play area,
but these periods are becoming less and less frequent as time goes by.
This girl loves people and will give kisses, but she is from Triple F,
and when she plays with people she does nip a little too hard, but we're
working with her on that.
Persephone went to a wonderful home with other ferret playmates.

to be treated for ear mites, but otherwise was updated on his vaccinations
by his rescuer. Blanco is reported to be from a breeder in Canada.
Blanco is proof that somewhere out there is a human for every ferret.

guff from them and can scream like a pro if they don't respect her authority.
Venus is very people oriented, and responds with affection when given attention.
She has put on weight and is now a chunky, healthy, playful ferret who
would do great in a home where she would receive a lot of one on one attention
from her humans. Venus is from Marshall Farms.

This is one gorgeous ferret! He seems very good natured despite
living in horrible conditions. This fully grown whole male has
been living in a tiny hamster cage for more than a year. The
bottom of the cage was filled with cumping litter and he was
feed the "cheapest cat food available" according to his previous
owner. Couscous needs to be neutered, treated for ear mites, and
have his complete vaccine series. He should be smelling
significantly less a month after his surgery and then we can see
how well he does with other ferrets.
Couscous had quite a list of people who wanted him, and as expected,
this teddy bear found a home in no time.

These girls were tearfully turned over to us when their owners
unexpectedly found out the reality of ferret veterinary care. Wicket
has adrenal disease and needs surgery and Twitter contracted ECE
from some recently purchased pet store kits. The future vet care burden
was too much for them so they were grateful to turn them over to the CFN
where they were assured the pair would get the vet care they need to thrive.
These two are sweet hearts with lots of personality. Twitter is from
Triple F and Wicket is from Canada.
These two girls went to a great home in Washington, where they're
actively being spoiled by a great ferret experienced family.

other pets and children. The girls are both from Marshall Farms.

This guy is so sweet and fluffy that all you need is a piece of
chocolate, some graham crackers and a campfire to make your very own
ferret smore. Macaroon is delighted to do anything that involves
playing with people. We suspect he will be just as happy with other ferrets,
but he hasn't had the opportunity to interact with any yet. Macaroon is very
good about using his litterbox when playing outside of his cage. He was
turned in as a stray and is from Marshall Farms.

Othello and Lightening have been buddies since they were
adopted about a year ago. Their former owner was unable to give them the
daily attention we require they get, and she felt they were suffering
because of it. Lightening also has some health issues that were going to
be hard for her to afford dealing with. He underwent adrenal surgery earlier
this year, but not all the abnormal tissue was removed, and another surgery
will be needed in the future. He has also been diagnosed with Inflammatory
Bowel Disease which needs medication and monitoring in the future. Othello
is a feisty boy that talks incessantly as he chases his ferret friends
around. He is a small boy, but has very large feet. Lightning is from
Marshall Farms and Othello is from a local breeder and is not descented.

This youngster has a vivaious personality and is just plain adorable. It's

happened to Scarlett. She was left in the care of the owner's
roommates and her owner never returned. She is thrilled to get human
interaction, but needs to finish ear mite treatment before we can see
how she gets along with other ferrets. Scarlett is from Marshall Farms.

These two beauties were turned over to us because their owner was
concerned that her son would harm them on purpose. It didn't sound like
a good situation, so we made arrangements to bring them (and their
cagemate Olympia) back from Olympia as soon as possible. Frankie
was purchased as a bay from a
pet store and they found later (after she was named) that the ferret was a
female. Pandora was living in a pet store and labeled as a "biter",
which means her future was not bright. Luckily she was taken home and
given lots of attention and does not live up to her former reputation.
They are
beautiful and sweet and like playing with other ferrets. Pandora and
Frankie must were placed together, but Olympia will go to a home with
another ferret. Pandora and Frankie are from Triple F.

dinosaur character in the movie Land of the Lost. Chomper has
had her name for a long time and is a total sweetheart so we
will make an exception for in her case. Missy is a beautiful
black sable with a loving disposition. They have been well
taken care of their entire lives, but were tearfully
relinquished because of allergy problems with thier owner's
family. They have lived with young children and dogs and get
along well with other ferrets. They are both from Marshall Farms.

Puff was living a life of neglect in Astoria until a friend of our

early one morning, before the sun rose. She is missed.

Névé is a large, beautiful girl. She was named after a term
that refers to a field of granular snow because of her handsome white coat.
We were worried about Névé because she was not eating. We finally
tried some Marshalls ferret food (not a food we usually offer), and she
started chowing down. She loves to wrestle and "corn cob" human hands, but
doesn't like other ferrets at all.
Névé is a great ferret who will lavish her owners with love
and ferret kisses. We've become quite fond of her here at the shelter
and can't understand why she hasn't found a home yet.
Névé is from Marshall Farms, and her name rhymes with "away".
We are thrilled with Névé's placement: this special girl
will live in a classroom of sixth grade students at an elementary
school. On the weekends she'll go home with the teacher or a very
responsible student, and on holidays she'll come visit with us.

This beautiful girl was a stray that came north from the land of ferret
persecution (CA). She is a very lively sprite, as is the norm for a 6 month
old, but she managed to acquire a green fracture of her front leg during a
play session and has been forced to endure more cage rest than she would
like. The fracture seems to be healing well and by the time Ashley
finishes her distemper series and ear mite treatment, she should be
completely healed and ready for action. Ashley is from Marshall Farms.

Name: Gremlin

Sex: M
|
Age: 2 years
|
Color: sable
|
Placed: January
Gremlin has been abandoned by more than one owner in his short life.
He has spent the last month of his life living under a cabin near Sandy,
Oregon. The kind hearted couple living in the cabin had been feeding Gremlin
every evening when he came out of his hiding place. They hoped his owners
(who they knew) would reclaim and capture him, but after a month of waiting
and worrying about the little guy getting eaten by the plentiful predators
in the area (including cougars), having their boots turn up missing off the
porch, finding "presents" left by the ferret thanking them for the food,
they decided to take action. They called the CFN just when the weather
started to get nasty. They assured us the ferret came out every night like
clockwork and wasn't afraid of them (the main reason they hadn't captured
him was they were a little bit afraid of him), so he should have been easy
for us to catch. We'd heard that story before and knew better, so we brought
a live trap to leave in case the ferret did not behave as predicted, which
he didn't. Luckily, Gremlin went into the trap shortly after we left the
site. Other than smelling slightly of skunk, he is in good shape with no
fleas, but a bad case of ear mites. He is very gentle with people and seems
a bit intimidated with other ferrets so far. Gremlin is from Marshall Farms.

Name: Arwen

Sex: F
|
Age: 4-5 years
|
Color: cinnamon
|
Placed: January
Arwen's most recent owners were not caring or responsible humans.
They left Arwen in a crate without food or water at a gas station, and by
the time someone finally noticed her she was almost dead. Arwen weighed less
than 3/4 of a pound, could barely stand, had black tarry diarrhea, and a bruised
and bloody vulva. Arwen is a fighter and had a strong will to survive. She
bounced back quickly with the help of hand feedings and medications. Within
a few short weeks she doubled her weight and transformed from a pathetic
skeleton curled into a tight ball into a bright eyed, bushy tailed girl with
a lot of personality and a deficit of lost cuddle and play time to make up
for in the rest of her life. Arwen deserves to be pampered as much as
possible for the rest of her life. She seems to interact well with gentle
ferrets. Arwen is from Marshall Farms.
Arwen went home with a super family who have adopted CFN ferrets in
the past, and she now plays with her new ferret friends (including
Critter and Fern) and lavishes kisses upon her humans. She is a healthy,
happy, chunky bundle of joy.

Age: 1 - 2 years

Color: sable

Died: January
Cornelius is a sweet gentle boy who was found by the side of
the road by a good samaritan, who noticed he couldn't use his hind
quarters. At first we though Cornelius had escaped from his home
and was paralyzed after he was hit by a car, but tests xrays, and
examinations from specialists revealed that this poor little boy
has a rare disease. The disease is working its way up from his
back legs to his front legs, and there is no cure or procedure
to help him. Cornelius is a doll, and loves playing and interacting
with people, but he goes through periods where he is in pain,
and we are monitoring him constantly to see when these periods
become so frequent and long that his life is more misery than
joy.
Cornelius was helped over the Rainbow Bridge in early January
of 2001. He was a sweet boy whom all the shelter staff miss.
