May 2002 Libra is being sponsored long distance by Fran Harris, a ferret lover from Oregon that is living in New York. Libra arrived showing the typical symptoms of Adrenal Disease but because of her age, she is getting Lupron injections rather than having surgery. Libra was given her first treatment in January and has grown fur back on her bald spots and her vulva is not swollen any longer. Each Lupron shot costs $200 and she needs an injection every 4 months to prevent symptoms from reappearing. Libra also started showing signs of Insulinoma several months ago and we've been working with the vets to get her stabilized so that she is active and not having any hypoglycemic episodes. She is currently getting supplemental feedings and is being treated with both prednisone and proglycem, the latter of which is a very expensive medication. Libra lives and plays with Canby, Dixie and Trixie. |
