Since: January 5, 2002 Three years! Peanut's sponsor is Stan Boyes, the patriarch of an extended ferret family. Stan is a sucker for a ferret in need and has a hard time not adopting all of the ferrets waiting for safe loving homes. Last year on his birthday he became the new guardian of Arwen, a very special shelter ferret. Adding more real ferrets to their home is now a logistical problem, so in honor of his birthday, Stan is now Peanut's guardian angel. Coming to the shelter was an improvement in the quality of life of Peanut and his buddy Bobo. Sadly, Bobo died a few months later after undergoing adrenal surgery. We found out afterward that he had lymphoma too. Peanut carried on without his buddy, but soon started showing the classic symptoms of insulinoma. He was placed on prednisone and was taken into foster care where he became friends with Tonto who had recently lost his best friend to lymphoma as well. Frequent hand feedings and medication couldn't prevent Peanut from continuing to have low blood sugar problems. He underwent surgery in January 2001, but starting showing the same symptoms within a few months. Peanut is now on a very expensive drug that he will have to take twice each day for the rest of his life to keep him healthy. He is finally eating enough solid food on his own to maintain a good weight and has beautiful stools. Peanut also has the energy and endurance he needs to play with Tonto and his other foster ferret buddies. |
