Possum
August, 2003

Possum is sponsored by Anna Wellborn and Mike Eadie, very generous ferret lovers that have sponsored several other ferrets.

Possum arrived at the shelter from California with his buddy Tipper and several other cagemates in 2000. The other cagemates were all adopted, but Possum was unfortunate to be paired with an older albino as a buddy. It is hard enough to place bonded pairs let alone pairs where one member is considered old and an undesirable color (most people suffer from albino prejudice). Tipper and Possum went to live in a foster home and have been living a fairly uneventful life ever since. Possum started showing aggressive tendencies and other symptoms of adrenal disease in February of 2002 and his left adrenal gland was removed a few months later. About a year later the symptoms returned and Possum started harassing all the other ferrets in the foster home. He was given an injection of Lupron to alleviate the symptoms of adrenal disease and now has to get the $50 injections every month to keep him from being overly aggressive to other ferrets. Sadly, Possum recently lost his buddy Tipper to a brain tumor.

February 2005: Possum had a second adrenal surgery early in 2004 to remove his right adrenal gland. Unfortunately it was found that it was malignant and could not be completely removed. He only recently started showing symptoms of adrenal disease again and has been given a melatonin implant.
