Ricochet
Since: February 28, 2004
Renewed: March 2005

Ricochet is sponsored by Arlene Nelson. Arlene doesn't own any ferrets, but she has several ferret grandchildren and her daughter volunteers at CFN.

Ricochet arrived in August of 2002 in pathetic shape. His caretakers had taken him to a vet (luckily one that knew ferrets) because he was rapidly going bald. Dr. Ramsell told them that Ricochet had adrenal disease and needed surgery. Ricochet was quickly turned over to CFN after that since his original owner had left him in the care of an acquaintance for one week, but had not bothered contacting them for more than 2 months. They had been willing to take care of him, but were not willing to provide him with the surgical procedure he needed. Ricochet had surgery in October 2002 to remove his right adrenal gland, some insulinoma tumors and a skin growth in his urogenital area. He recovered well from the procedure and was back to his super sweet self in no time. He loves to be tickled and bounces like he's riding a pogo stick when he is really excited. One of Ricochet's favorite things to do is burrow and dig in the rice bin and the bin of shredded paper. He has recently started having hypoglycemic episodes because of insulinoma and has been started on long term medication to stabilize his blood sugar levels. He gets hand fed soup twice each day to make sure he is eating enough to maintain his glucose levels.
