Ringo and Martin
May 7, 2003

Rebecca Bogorad a devoted volunteer and ferret lover, but not a ferret owner (yet), sponsored three ferrets: Ringo, Martin, and Columbia! Ringo and Martin arrived together in August of 2002. We were told that Ringo was 5 years old and that Martin was 3 years old. They had been rescued by their current owners from a situation of inadequate care 2 years before. The father of the family felt they had too many ferrets and he didn't want to deal with the financial responsibility of getting adrenal surgery for Ringo, who was bald and in obvious need of the procedure. Ringo had bilateral adrenal surgery soon after his arrival and regrew a fine coat of fur that allowed everyone to notice how adorable he was. Unfortunately he has exhibited signs that his adrenal surgery did not eliminate the problem entirely and he will be on monthly Lupron injections to alleviate the symptoms of adrenal disease. One of the symptoms is trying to breed his cagemate Martin. Poor Martin has to put up with his ears getting sucked on occasionally until the Lupron kicks in for Ringo. Martin has had chronic horribly loose stools that have not responded to any of the medications he has been on to try to help him. He has also been on several different types of food to no avail. Currently he is being medicated to eliminate the possibility that he has Helicobacter in his stomach, but the medication hasn't made any difference yet.
